How am I a first grade teacher

I always considered myself a parent who was able to know enough of the basics to help my children with their home work. 1+1? I totally got this!

That is, until the covid shut down. This past year, all four of my children have been remote - from college to high school, middle school and then lastly, first grade.

Each day, from September 2020 until now, I sit on the floor next to my sons perfectly sized desk, for him, and learn first grade math with him so once the meets are done I can teach him. There have been a lot of fails. A lot of curse words and a lot of considering letting my son just completely skip first grade.

Sitting here on a Sunday in late may, I am reflecting a lot on this past school year. One, boy did I learn a lot! Two, First grade is totally hard, and that's okay! Three, I failed a lot and when I wanted to give up, I didn't, and this was all 100% because of my little guy depending on me to know my stuff.

Pep talk of the day? Its okay if you're not a first grade teacher. As long as you try, fail, and don't give up, you too can pass first grade all over again with your child!

All that being said, bring on September 2021, where the kids kiss you goodbye and let the teachers be the teachers again.

Maybe I'll set an update in late June and let y'all know if we passed.

Happy sunday, all!
